SU 17780 Alticus triangulus Chapman [W. M.], 1951 Holotype  [Collection database record]
triangulus, Alticus Chapman [W. M.] in de Beaufort & Chapman 1951:269, Fig. 46 [Fishes Indo-Australian Archipelago; ref. 16097] Andaman Islands. Holotype: CAS-SU 17780. Paratypes: (77) RMNH 1816 (1); CAS-SU 17781 (15), 17782 (5), 37132-33 (17, 2), 39580 (35); USNM 112034 (4), 144426 (4), 144517 (1, now 0), 144518 (7, now 0), 144519 (3), 144520 (0), 144521 (0), 144522 (0), 144531 (2), 144550 (now 7); ZMA 112903 (1); ZSI [ex USNM 144517-19] (1, 7, 8, 1), ZSI [ex 144531] (4), ZSI [ex USNM 144550] (30). Springer et al. list a number of USNM paratypes, including many sent to the "Indian Museum", but it is clear from the Stanford lots and the original description that the USNM received no types; the original number of types probably was 73 or 74 -- 3 in 37132 were reidentified by Chapman prior to publication of triangularis but the bottle label and catalog retained the number 17, and one is unaccounted for or Chapman meant 40 specimens from the Andamans rather than 40 paratypes from the Andamans. •Valid as Praealticus triangulus (Chapman 1951) -- (Bath 1992:294 [ref. 20223], Springer 2001:3546 [ref. 26290], Allen & Adrim 2003:55 [ref. 26830], Imamura in Imamura & Satapoomin 2009:252 [ref. 31162], Patzner et al. 2009:460 [ref. 30396], Allen & Erdmann 2012:831 [ref. 31980]). Current status: Valid as Praealticus triangulus (Chapman 1951). Blenniidae: Salariinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Andaman Sea (Andaman Islands, Myanmar and Thailand) and Indonesia. Habitat: marine.
